UCF AT THE NATIONAL FLAG FOOTBALL TOURNAMENT

UCF's national semifinal teams, Touchdown Here and Showstoppers

UCF was well represented at the ACIS (Pensacola) and NIRSA (Dallas) National Flag Football Tournaments over winter break with both teams and officials. UCF's Mens and Womens teams (Showstoppers and Touchdown Here) both reached the Final 4 at the muddy NIRSA tournament in Dallas, falling short in the semi-finals. Brandon Baroody and Gia Castellino were both named to the all-tournament team, an award given to the top eight players in each division. Full results are listed here. Also of note, Seven of the 75 total officials hailed from UCF, as Vladimir Voyard, Donnie Barnes, Tom Eaton, Sarah Crytzer, Marissa Dienstag, Rob Smyth, and Craig Menkes each officiated tournament games.

UCF AT THE NATIONAL TOURNAMENT

UCF was represented at the national flag football tournament this year by three teams and two officials. Kappa Delta found themselves shorthanded due to illness of some players and still managed to hang close for two games, but went down in both. They still were able to score 3 touchdowns with only 5 players but fell to two top teams. UCF's Co-Rec team was brand new to the tournament after last year's national championship team did not return to the event. After falling in pool play by one touchdown, they lost in the first round of the playoffs to Tarleton State University, the eventual national champion. In the Men's Division, the Showstoppers had a tough first round game as they took on past national champion Southern University. In a back and forth game, the Showstoppers lost by only 6 points in the last minute of the game. They took out their frustration on Murray State in their next game, winning by over 50 points. In the first round of the playoffs the Showstoppers knocked off C-USA rival UAB, but unfortunately their run ended in the second round after losing to North Texas. Josh Weaver, defensive specialist, was named a second team all american on defense!

UCF SHINES AT NATIONAL TOURNAMENT

LSU and Oklahoma weren't the only teams playing for a national championship over the break in New Orleans. The UCF Co-Rec Flag Football team finished second in the nation at the ACIC Flag Football championships, just falling short against UConn in the finals. UCF started the tournament with wins over UConn and Western Kentucky, then stormed through the playoffs with wins over Arizona State, Nebraska, and St. Peters College.

The run ended with a 16-6 defeat in the title game in the rematch against UConn. UCF came home with some hardware though, as Julie Hartley was named the female tournament MVP and Aya Funahashi, Kim Freed, and James Panui were named First Team All-Americans!
